Why Buildings Are Switching to Digital Tipping

Three shifts are prompting the change in cashless tipping adoption:

Residents stopped carrying cash. The default payment methods for adults under 50 are mobile and card-based, not cash. When physical cash is the only option, staff get fewer tips. When cashless tipping options and digital payment methods are available, they get more tips.

Staff need consistent recognition. Higher tip earnings boost staff motivation, lift staff retention, and reduce turnover. Hospitality data shows this pattern with digital tipping software, and the dynamic plays out in residential too.

How TippingLink Pricing Works

Digital tipping platforms typically use one of a few pricing models: monthly subscriptions, per-property licensing, transaction fees on staff tips, or tiered SaaS plans.

TippingLink doesn't use any of those for buildings. Buildings pay nothing to enable the platform. Residents pay a TippingLink fee on top of the tip amount when they send a tip. The fee covers payment processing on the payment methods residents already use, like bank transfers and credit cards. Staff receive the full tip amount, with no platform deduction.

A digital tipping platform is software that handles cashless tipping. Residents tip building staff from a smartphone or computer. The platform processes the payment securely and credits the staff member's account.

What payment methods does TippingLink support?

TippingLink supports the secure payment methods residents already use. Link a bank account or pay with a credit card. The platform routes those payment methods through financial technology partners that handle the processing securely.

Are TippingLink tips secure?

Yes. TippingLink runs on PCI-compliant payment infrastructure and SOC 2-certified systems. Sensitive payment information is encrypted and never stored in full on TippingLink servers. Identity verification and fraud prevention partners meet strict regulatory standards.

How fast do tips arrive?

Tips appear in the recipient's TippingLink account the moment a resident sends them. Staff can access those funds whenever they're ready. Transfers from the TippingLink account to a personal bank account typically take 1 to 2 business days to clear.

Does TippingLink charge staff a fee?

No. Staff receive the full amount of every tip. TippingLink fees are paid by the resident on top of the tip amount, not deducted from tip earnings.

Can residents send a personal message with a tip?

Yes. Residents can include a personalized thank-you message along with their tip.

What can staff see about their own tips?
Staff can review every tip they've received and filter the list by unit number, name, and date. Each tip shows who sent it and the tip amount.
Can management see who tipped whom?
No. Management cannot see individual tip transactions. Property staff and building management have no visibility into who tipped whom or how much. Individual tips stay private between the resident and the staff who received them.
Does TippingLink work for buildings that don't use BuildingLink?
Yes. TippingLink is a standalone digital tipping platform. It works whether or not a building uses BuildingLink, and integrates cleanly for buildings that already do.
